  1. Mobile support

Because you don't have enough things to do =)

A mobile site or apps for the iPhone/Android would be awesome.

I agree. Native iPhone/iPad/Android apps are on the roadmap. On the way there I’d like to optimize the mobile experience of the existing web app as well. If I only had the time/resources… Thanks for documenting this idea.

  2. Unread items counter for each category (custom ones too)

It would be a real boost in UI to have an unread items counter near each category name (even the custom ones) + a small color/highlight customization panel to set the border of the unread items after each user preferences (or something similar on this idea).

  4. Allow viewing the full content of the post (text, pics, vids) within the app like Google Reader

I don't see the point of an RSS feed it if doesn't let you see the entire content of a post, including text, photos, and videos like Google Reader. It would make the site much more functional and a competitive replacement for Reader.

Thanks for the suggestion. I agree. Obstacles here are 1) a lot of feeds do not deliver full texts, 2) displaying deep links in iframes doesn’t work well because a lot of publishers bust frames and take over the entire screen, and 3) after all in many cases it’s illegal. Google’s behaviour is just tolerated. Nevertheless, I am working on a good solution here, stay tuned. Thanks.

I am a huge fan of openness, interoperability, and free and simple export of data (you “own”).

I am working on an export feature but the XML that’s going to be generated probably can’t and won’t be RSS, ATOM, RDF, or OPML formatted.

Since Good Noows sources are/will not only be feeds but also website captures, API-delivered content, tweet streams and, at some point, potentially anything on the web, the exported XML will probably need to have a Good Noows namespace. I don’t even know yet if every resource will have an URL.

I am going to figure something out. Maybe I can manage to develop an OPML export for the resources that fit into this.

  6. night mode (white on black)

I would like to read news in bed on a dark background.
A good example is the Pulse news reader for the iPad by Alphonso Labs.

  7. An "All elements" category

Like on google reader, a category that would show all the news from all other subjects

  10. mark as read when scrolling (setting)

In google reader when you scroll away from an article, it is marked as read. I like this setting because I prefer to skim many (hundreds) of feeds and headlines and let the less interesting ones go by.

Great idea. A bit tricky because in Good Noows the articles have different scroll heights depending on the applied visual style. But we’ll look into it. In the short term we are working on an “Mark all as read” button, which you could use after having scrolled through the stream of articles.

  11. open feed without the popup

i don't like the pop-up. it breaks up the flow of reading. could you set one of the styles to NOT use the pop-up window for viewing the feed? and instead just expand the entry in place (like google reader).

other than that this looks great! very clean.

  14. Give priority / weight / importance to feeds

It would be nice to have some sort of highlight feature or weight feature that gives more visibility to most important feeds in a folder. Sometimes i have feeds with a few post per week but that are very important and others that i dont care much. So it would be nice to have different color, font, header or a bigger "div" for news coming from "prioritized" feeds (you can give weight on settings using "stars" or + / -)

We are not there yet but we are planning to make the system learn your personal preferences better (with thumbs-up/down at item level and sliders at feed level). Thanks

  15. Change the size of the stories on the page depending on their importance. Just like a newspaper.

When you dont have much time it would make it easier to 'skim' the paper just reading the stories of major relevance at the time.

Nice idea! This implies that there is some measurement of personalized “importance” of content. And that’s exactly what I am aiming at but you can’t yet see it in the product. Working on it…

  16. Sort by oldest first

I really like to read articles chronologically. So please let me sort them by oldest first.

  17. Aggregate similar items

If you follow a lot of news sources that have some overlap in the topics covered, it would be nice to get similar news items grouped together.

Thanks for your message. Apologies for the delayed answer.

Great idea. A lot of people request this – including myself :) My problem are my limited resources. If I get new funding you will have the perfect newsreader app for iPad soon! I know that the web app version is currently not the right approach for tablet devices…
